Happy Saturday Everyone!
A shout out to all my followers who take the time to read my blogs, I so appreciate the feedback and I am glad they are helping you on your fitness journey.
As MANY of you have noticed, I have been kind-of avoiding the topic of food. Actually, I’ve totally been avoiding it. Here’s why. I love that stuff; I love food! And writing about it seems daunting because I don’t know how to appropriately capture all its greatness. There are so many different ways to approach what you eat; whether its “clean eating”, “Dieting”, “Calorie Counting”, or “Eating whatever I want to”, I just don’t even know how to cover all of it. But I’m gonna try, even though it could be messy.
How and what you eat should depend on what your goals are. But in any path you choose, food is a good thing, especially when you understand it. And it is pretty dang easy to understand! Cuz I mean really there are three components; the calories, the nutrients, and the energy type (carbs, protien, fat). And calories is the easiest part. We need them! For everything! Simply living life burns calories. I live life everyday. You do too. Even if we sit on the couch all day long, we’re still living life.
Thinking burns calories, pumping blood through your body, breathing, all of it; it all takes energy. But in a day, you do things; walk to the shower (hopefully you do this on a regular basis), go to school, go to work, you know, the works. But lets say you did spend the entire day on the couch, still using energy. This is actually called your Basal Metabolic Rate. There are several ways to calculate your BMR, there are several online calculators, I’m not sure how accurate they are. I tested three different ones and the lowest said mine was 1370.5 and the highest was 2300. So who knows. Using the benefit of the doubt though, lets just go with 1370. It’s like free money! I can eat that much laying in my bed and not gain a single pound.
So then add in living more life, and you’ve got at least a free 2,000. Then add in some working out… I mean, girl, you’re okay! Just watch how much you life you’re living, and make sure you give yourself enough energy to live a full life.
This is a very general, broad, intro to calories. Which I think are crucially important. And while I DO NOT CONDONE EATING THIS WAY, I am also posting this video of the “twinkie diet” so that none of you worry about eating something “unhealthy” because lets face it. What is more chemically altered than a twinkie. I don’t even think those have expiration dates.
Check it out! Don’t follow his example, but take this calorie counting experiment as relief, as that bowl of ice cream you just had=no big deal.
